NILGA has committed to joining the Menopause Accreditation Programme, delivered in association with Work Life People, marking an important step in strengthening workplace inclusion and support around menopause.
Through the programme, NILGA will build a greater understanding of menopause in the workplace and promote practical measures to support staff and elected members.
The commitment reflects wider recognition of the need for workplace cultures in which menopause is acknowledged, understood and addressed appropriately.
As a natural life stage, menopause affects many people during their working lives, yet it is still too often misunderstood or treated as a difficult subject to raise at work.
Without the right support, employers can face avoidable challenges, including reduced wellbeing, loss of experience and missed opportunities for simple adjustments.

NILGA President, Cllr Billy Webb, said the decision demonstrates NILGA’s commitment to fostering a more inclusive and supportive working environment.
“By joining the Menopause Accreditation Programme, NILGA is demonstrating leadership on an important workplace issue. It also reflects the commitment of elected members to raising awareness, improving understanding and strengthening support for employees experiencing menopause. This is about creating healthier, more inclusive workplaces,” he said.
The Menopause Accreditation Programme helps organisations build knowledge, confidence and practical support around menopause at work, while involving staff and managers across the organisation, not only those directly affected.
Built around a six-course eLearning pathway, the programme helps organisations understand menopause, recognise its impact and identify practical ways to support colleagues at work, including through informed conversations and appropriate adjustments.
Managers are supported to have confident, sensitive conversations, signpost resources and agree on practical adjustments.
The programme offers a practical opportunity to review policies, embed learning and strengthen workplace support.
Karina Todd, Founder and CEO of Work Life People, welcomed NILGA’s involvement.
“NILGA’s decision to join the Menopause Accreditation Programme sends an important message about the value of creating workplaces where people feel supported and understood. Menopause has a direct impact on wellbeing, inclusion and retention, and organisations that respond positively can make a meaningful difference to employees’ experience at work,” she said.
By joining the programme, NILGA is reinforcing the importance of workplace wellbeing, inclusion and practical support for those experiencing menopause.
